We are seeking an experienced seeking a highly experienced and visionary Technical Director specializing in carbon management to lead our UK operations to join our growing Environmental & Sustainability team. The successful candidate will be instrumental in driving our sustainability initiatives, setting strategic goals, and ensuring excellence in carbon reduction and environmental compliance. As Technical Director, you will provide leadership, technical expertise, and strategic direction to our team, aligning our practices with cutting-edge solutions and sustainability targets.

Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Set and implement strategic objectives for carbon management across all Sweco projects, influencing company-wide practices and policies.
- Technical Expertise: Provide high-level technical guidance and oversight on carbon footprint assessments, reduction strategies, and compliance measures.
- Innovation and Research: Drive research and innovation efforts in carbon management, staying ahead of industry trends and integrating new technologies and methodologies into practice.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Lead engagement efforts with key stakeholders, including clients, regulatory bodies, industry partners, and community groups, fostering collaborative relationships.
- Project Oversight: Manage and mentor a team of carbon experts and sustainability professionals, ensuring project deliverables align with strategic sustainability goals.
- Compliance and Reporting: Oversee compliance with national, regional, and local environmental regulations, ensuring accurate and comprehensive reporting on carbon performance.
- Business Development: Identify and pursue new opportunities for business growth related to carbon management and sustainability consultancy, expanding Sweco’s market presence.
- Thought Leadership: Represent Sweco in industry forums, conferences, and publications, showcasing our expertise and thought leadership in carbon management.
Office Location: London, Leeds, Edinburgh or Glasgow
Qualifications:
- Educational Background: Master’s degree (or higher) in Environmental Science, Sustainable Development, Engineering, or a related field.
- Professional Experience: Extensive experience (ideally 15+ years) in carbon management, sustainability consulting, or environmental engineering, with a proven track record of leadership in complex projects.
- Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of carbon footprinting tools, software, and methodologies. Expertise in environmental regulations and standards.
- Analytical Skills: Exceptional analytical capabilities, with the ability to develop strategic insights and actionable plans from complex data.
- Communication Skills: Superior verbal and written communication skills, capable of influencing and inspiring diverse audiences.
- Project Management: Strong experience in managing large-scale projects, including budgeting, timelines, risk management, and stakeholder coordination.
- A willingness to travel to meet and support our teams and clients across the UK.
