Job Description

We are currently looking for talented and motivated Technical Manager/Technical Director (Transport Planner) to join our busy Transport Planning team in either our Edinburgh or Glasgow offices.  This role can be worked flexibly with a minimum of 3 days per week in the office and the option of adjusted start and finish times.

What does the role involve?     

At Sweco, we draw upon a combined knowledge base of 22,000 experts across Northern Europe. Working as part of the Scotland Transport Planning team, you will be a key senior member of the team with a focus on building client relationships and will be responsible for the delivery of a wide variety of projects across the private and public sector.   

The role will include collaborating with other teams throughout the business and you will oversee, manage, input, and deliver bids for a wide range of opportunities.   

You will be a technical lead within the team, responsible for the successful delivery of projects and will have input to the financial status of the team, plus assisting the team manager and Business Unit Manager with the longer-term business strategy for the team and wider Business Unit.  You will also support the team manager with mentoring and training of less experienced colleagues.

To be successful in this role you’ll have:

  • At least 10 years’ experience in transport planning.
  • Demonstrable technical knowledge in transport planning ideally with business case, active travel, travel choice and behaviour, public transport, decarbonising transport, strategic transport connectivity, transport studies and development planning experience (or a combination of) for projects with national and / or local government clients, agencies, and private sector.
  • Experience of undertaking the role of both project manager and project director.
  • Extensive experience in bid submissions including the negotiation of contracts and appointments.
  • Experience of the various public sector frameworks such as Scotland Excel.
  • The ability to run projects of varying size and complexity leading to a successful outcome of the client and delivering projects on time and to budget.
  • Experience of inputting to longer term business strategies  
  • Significant experience in working on multi-disciplinary projects across all sectors.
  • Chartered status with a relevant professional qualification or equivalent.
